Biography:
Omar Newman’s interest in photography was sparked at age nine when he learned darkroom developing techniques. He transitioned to music photography when he shot the local group, Was (Not Was). After attending the Arts and Crafts College of Art in Detroit, Newman was hired in 1971 for a promotional package and four week tour for Ted Nugent. Newman’s collection includes artists Elton John, CSNY, Pat Benatar, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, and Aerosmith, among others. His work has also appeared on many album covers, in promotional materials, and in gallery shows. He has owned his own photography and recording studios and was a staff photographer for CREEM magazine. Currently, Newman resides in Michigan and is a commercial and fine art photographer as well as an independent sound and motion producer.
