Photographer: Mark Honickel

Biography:
Mark Honickel recalls being impacted at a young age when he saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. He thought then that someday he would leave his suburb in New Jersey to live in the East Village in New York City. In 1979 his premonition became reality and he photographed many bands at the local music clubs including The Clash, Sting, The Talking Heads, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In addition to music photography, Honickel has a special interest in chronicling cultural dissent like the No Nukes protests, the wars in Central America in the 1980’s, as well as current anti-war movements. Today, Honickel continues his career as a paramedic and practices Tai Chi Chuan and other Chinese Internal Energy Arts.
