Photographer: Gordy Collins

Biography:
Gordy Collins is a veteran of the music industry with over forty years experience on both sides of the lens. At a young age, Collins toured with his siblings as The Collins Kids, and later as The Collins Coins, performing on various television shows and traveling across the country with numerous Opry stars. After serving in the US Marines, he and his brother bought a recording studio in Seattle and continued to perform stateside and internationally. In 1977, after traveling for so many years, the family decided to “quit the road,” and Collins began to manage other artists. Unfortunately, he was deeply disheartened by the politics of the business. Collins ran into an old friend from The Red Foley show, Leroy Van Dyke, who said, “You should find something to do that you love to do and love it so much you would do it for nothing. And then find somebody to pay you for it.” That very day Collins put the wheels into motion to quit “the business end of the business.” Photography was the “something that you love to do – and love so much that you would do it for nothing,” and after all these years, he is still trying to find someone who will pay him for it. Gordy Collins has enjoyed the pleasure of photographing many of his friends, such as Red Foley, Minnie Pearl, Johnny Paycheck, Gene Autry, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and June Carter, and many others, and is honored to contribute photographically to the business he has loved all his life.
